Student Design and Stage Manager Entrants

Certificate of Merit

Certificates of Merit should be awarded for truly exceptional work.  Not every production will or should receive a COM. These should not be discussed with the Host Institution. Just doing a job well {SM, Assistant Director, Lead Actor, etc} is not justification for a COM.

Please limit yourself to 2 Certificates of Merit or less per production. If you would like to recommend additional Certificates of Merit, please contact the Regional Chair.

Justification: Why is this design, performance, etc. exceptional?

Examples:

  • Outstanding Ensemble. Justification: Freshman students created and produced their own play.
  • Detailed Costumes. Justification: Student designed and built period costumes.

NOTE:  The Mission of KCACTF is to promote and encourage student work and scholarship.  On rare occasions a COM may be awarded to faculty members.

For Participating Productions Only

Summary Comments about the Participating production

NEW: If you are not recommending this show for inclusion in the Regional Festival, please still provide a few sentences on the strength of the production.  We are sending letters to directors/institutions for all participating productions and include positives from the shows.

Understand that these comments provide the selection committee with the only evidence of this production’s merit. Please clearly describe the performance using the structure that follows. Written responses that are too brief, leave the committee asking a lot of questions. However, written responses that are very long are sometimes difficult to decipher. In other words… Please completely and clearly describe the performance, but don’t write a book.

When possible leave out references to the school and names of people. (ie: default to: the school, the director, the set designer,…)

While these comments are not shared with the producing school, it is possible that the director or other members of the faculty of that institution may be on the selection committee. For concerns or private feedback you may send an e-mail to chair@kcactf2.org.

For all ranking questions; 1 is the lowest and 5 is the highest.
