AWARDS FOR STUDENTS

Barbizon Awards

Region II selects a nominee for the National Barbizon Awards for Theatrical Design Excellence in Lighting, Scenic, and Costume Design. Barbizon Inc. is a premier theatrical supply house specializing in advanced lighting for professionals. The purpose of the Barbizon Awards for Theatrical Design Excellence is to give outstanding student designers national recognition and the opportunity to exhibit their work at the Kennedy Center. Designs will be appraised on the basis of quality, effectiveness, originality, and rendering techniques.

The Region II Alcone Company Make-up Design Award

The purpose of the Alcone Company Award is to give outstanding student designers national recognition and the opportunity to exhibit their work at the Kennedy Center.

The Region II KCACTF Sound Design Award

The overall purpose of this award is to provide student sound designers with feedback and critiques from working professionals. The competition is focused on ideas that support a production and its concept, and not on the equipment in the original venue.

Region II Awards for Excellence in:

•  Lighting, Scenic, Costume, Make-up, and Sound Design

•  Stage Management

•  Technical Direction

•  Technology and Crafts 

•  Theatre Graphics 

Regional awards offer students the opportunity to showcase their work for realized and non-realized projects. Work will be assessed on the basis of quality, efficacy, and inventiveness. Past tech/craft entries have included properties design, projection design, assistant design work and costume construction. Theatre graphics entries have included posters and brochures.

THE FACTS

Eligibility

The awards listed above are open to all bona fide undergraduate and graduate student designers, technicians and managers from KCACTF participating institutions. A bona fide student is one who, during the period of initial screening, is: an undergraduate student registered for at least six semester hours or nine quarter hours; a graduate student registered for at least three semester or four quarter hours; a continuing part time student enrolled in a regular degree or certificate program.

To be considered for any of the above awards, you must present your work at the Region II Exhibit, held annually, and receive a response.  

All presenters must be registered for the Festival AND for the Exhibit.

Registered projects must have been realized during the spring, summer or fall term prior to festival.  

For guaranteed space, please register for the exhibit by December 14, 2007.

Categories

Realized designs for PARTICIPATING or ASSOCIATE KCACTF productions should be entered in the Barbizon, Alcone, or KCACTF Sound categories. All other projects, realized or paper projects, should be entered in the Region II Award categories.

Please note that Barbizon, Alcone, and KCACTF Sound presentations will also be considered for Regional Awards.

The Honors

The Region II Barbizon, Alcone and KCACTF Sound Award winners will represent Region II at the National KCACTF Festival at the Kennedy Center in the April following the regional festival. National Barbizon, Alcone, and KCACTF Sound Award winners receive several awards. To learn more, go to www.kcactf.org .

Regional Award winners will receive a gift from the Region at festival.
